Kaskinen – Kaskö
Kaskinen is a more than 200-year-old authentic wooden town, where everything is close by. Kaskinen is also an island located in the Ostrobothnia archipelago in Western Finland.
Over the course of its long history, the city of Kaskinen has experienced many adversities. Recent adversities, such as the failure to build a new factory, the closure of the railway line and the threat of the end of health services in Kaskinen, have caused people’s faith in the future to begin to decline. Young people no longer see opportunities.
The aim is to get the residents to work together towards a common goal, to strengthen the spirit of cooperation, improve the sense of community, and instil new hope and optimism. The plan is to remind people of their roots, the challenges experienced by previous generations, and to show that the challenges have been overcome before. It will be done by combining the many artists, craftsmen, musicians and all the people who love the city of Kaskinen. Opportunities where everyone can find their own way to help repair the town of Kaskinen and restore resilience will be crated. There are many communities and associations and also volunteers in the city of Kaskinen that work towards strengthening the cultural environment. The most important to this project are the Local Heritage Museum and the Culture and Tourism Association of Kaskinen.
As a result, the plan is to revitalize the city centre of Kaskinen, repair buildings with cultural historical value, show how much skills the residents of Kaskinen have and grow the faith for the future of young people and as well as everyone else. A vibrant cultural life acts as an attraction for new residents and tourists, promoting the local economy and providing a solid foundation for sustainable development.
2025 is the year of celebration in Kaskinen, when the city of Kaskinen turns 240 years old. The time is perfect for us to get people involved. If we do nothing now, Kaskinen will slowly fade away.
People will eventually leave and public services will disappear. We must now help ourselves and fight for our beautiful city!
