Płock hosts the BSR Cultural Pearls award ceremony
On May 10, the city of Płock, Poland, became a vibrant hub of celebration, culture, and international unity as it hosted the 26th edition of the European Picnic. This much-anticipated annual event, dedicated to promoting European integration, cross-border cooperation, and cultural diversity, bringing together citizens, and international guests.
The highlight of the day was the BSR Cultural Pearls 2025 awarding ceremony, which proudly recognized Płock’s nomination. The ceremony took place in the heart of the city—on the main square, right in front of the City Hall.
Presented by Felix Schartner Giertta, Project Manager of BSR Cultural Pearls, and Kazimierz Musiał, Senior Adviser on Regional Identity from the Council of the Baltic Sea States Secretariat, the award emphasized Płock’s commitment in fostering community resilience through culture and creativity.
The celebration was further enriched by a vibrant and diverse programme. Performances by preschoolers, primary school students, and talented young musicians from the local music school delighted attendees, while colourful stalls and creative activities added to the festive spirit.
International flair was added by the presence of delegations from Płock’s partner cities in France, Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, the USA, Lithuania, and more—underscoring the city’s deep ties with communities around the world.
During their visit to Płock, representatives of the BSR Cultural Pearls project took part in a series of insightful study visits to explore the city’s cultural initiatives, meet with local culture practitioners, and gain a deeper understanding of the activities outlined in Płock’s Culture and Resilience Action Plan. The programme also included an official reception hosted by the Mayor of Płock, Mr. Andrzej Nowakowski. In addition, a dedicated workshop introduced the Cultural Pearls project to the international delegation from Płock’s partner cities, fostering exchange and inspiration.
