Venue

The event will take place at Arnbjerg Pavillonen, located in Arnbjerg Park in Varde. It is one of the few remaining historic pavilions in Denmark. The park itself dates back to the 1600s, but the pavilion was built in 1899 by the municipality of Varde to provide a recreational space for local residents.

Travel to Varde

Varde is a charming town located in the southwestern part of Denmark. It is known for its beautiful landscapes and rich cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination for the Culture for Resilience Forum 2025. It lies about 301 km west of Copenhagen by road, or 257 km in a straight line.

How to get there:

  • By train: Frequent regional services run via Esbjerg, taking around 3h to 4h from Copenhagen, depending on connections
  • By car: The drive from Copenhagen takes approximately 3–3½ hours on major roads .
  • By plane: Fly into Billund Airport and then travel by train or road the rest of the way.

By train

The closest bigger city near Varde is Esbjerg, 24 km away. From Esbjerg there is a direct train to Copenhagen every hour (the same Copenhagen – Esbjerg).

If you take the train from Varde train station, you will change in Esbjerg. Download the DSB app and buy your ticket.

Tip: if you book early (tickets are put out for sale ca. 2 months before travel date), you will see “orange” or “orange fri” prices. Those are the cheapest ones and can be used only for the specific departure. “Orange” is non-refundable and cannot be changed. “Orange fri” can be refunded until 30 min before departure.

By plane


Varde is best reached via Billund Airport, which offers several direct and one-stop flights from across Europe. Below are some of the most convenient travel options by country. From Billund, transport to Varde will be arranged by organisers twice a day, or you may take a taxi (approx. 45 minutes).

Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is located on the eastern side of Denmark, approximately 300 kilometers from Varde. The journey from Copenhagen Airport to Varde can be made by taking a domestic flight to Billund Airport. Alternatively, you can take a train or rent a car for a scenic drive across the country, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours.

Traveling from Billund Airport to Varde: Billund Airport (BLL) is the closest airport to Varde, located approximately 55 kilometers away. The journey from Billund Airport to Varde typically takes around 45 minutes by car. You can easily rent a car at the airport.

Transfer/Taxi from Billund to Varde

If you arrive on Tuesday: we will arrange transfer from Billund at 10.30 and 15.00.
If you arrive on Monday: contact Taxa (Phone: 0045-75144500) minimum 3 hours in advance and order a taxi with a fixed price (up to 4 persons DKK 1020, up to 8 persons DKK 1320).  REMEMBER to ask for a fixed price taxi and inform about the flight number (the company keeps an eye on the arrivals and delays, so you don’t need to inform them about that, once the taxi is ordered).
